Hematocele (collection of blood around testicle)


Description

A blood clot caused by bleeding into the scrotum near the testicle. It is usually caused by bleeding into a hydrocele or from trauma to the testicle.

Symptoms

Pain in scrotum, swelling, bruising in scrotum.

Common tests used for diagnosis and treatment

Workup:
A history and physical exam will be performed. An ultrasound may be recommended.

Tests:
Complete blood count (CBC), Urinalysis (UA), Ultrasound

Other Specific Tests: Testicular ultrasound, clotting studies

Treatment

Treatment includes: scrotal elevation, warm compresses, and possibly evacuation of the blood.
