Description
Can be penetrating (gunshot wound or stabbing) or blunt (motor vehicle accident or fall). The trauma can result in injury to the teeth, jaw, lips, tongue, inner cheeks, gums, roof of the mouth (hard or soft palates), neck, or tonsils.
Symptoms
Swelling, pain, decreased motion of the jaw, unmatched teeth upon biting down (malocclusion), difficulty swallowing, breathing problems.

A history and physical exam will be performed. Additional tests may include x-rays or facial CT scan to define fractures.
