Description
Dermatofibromas are small non-cancerous growths on the skin. They are firm and often feel like there is a stone underneath the skin. They are rarely larger than a half-inch in size and are pink, gray, red or brown in color. They are rare in children. The cause of dermatofibromas is unknown.
Symptoms
Dermatofibromas are rarely symptomatic. Some individuals may experience mild discomfort or itching.

A history and physical will be performed. The diagnosis can usually be made based on exam findings. Occasionally if the diagnosis is uncertain, your doctor may recommend a skin biopsy.
