Mongolian spots (blue birthmark)



Description

Mongolian spots are flat, blue or blue-gray skin markings that commonly appear at birth or shortly after. They are not a sign of disease. They typically disappear in 3-5 years. They can sometimes look like bruises and children that have them are sometimes mistakenly thought to have been victims of child abuse.

Symptoms

Blue or blue-gray spots on the back, buttocks, base of spine, shoulders, and other body areas, flat area with irregular shape and unclear edges, normal skin texture
